Accountability Check-In #3

This week was the worst. Literally could not be more worse unless I started to delete words. The numbers are up to date as of Sunday, September 5th (and, regrettably, August 29th).

what happened here?

I did not write a single word this week. I could have at least tried.

Though to be fair, it was the final week before the start of my final year of dental school, so I was dedicating my time to a lot of different things, namely:

admin work for dental school

Calling and booking patients, coordinating with my classmate who is also my clinic partner, reviewing procedures, etc.

meal prepping and trying new recipes

Cooking can be so time consuming sometimes, but I try to do it only twice per week.

assessing personal finances and preparing a budget

I’m determined to keep better track of my spending this year. Not that it was out of control before, but there were times when I didn’t have a good grasp of what was going on in my bank account.

falling down the investment rabbit hole

I might write a post about this somewhere down the line. It’s one of those things that is somehow interesting and boring at the same time.

backing up my laptop and cleaning out old folders to free up space on my hard drive

Please, please, please back up your computer if you haven’t already been doing so! It will save you a lot of pain and heartache if something were to go wrong. Backing up your phone is also a really good idea.

There is even a bit more beyond those listed. I feel like I may need to adjust my expectations a little bit. To be completely honest, I may not be putting as much energy as I should into dental school. I’m in my final year, which means that after I graduate, I’ll be on my own. No more instructors to look over my shoulder and make sure I’m doing things right. So I need to make sure I’m doing everything I can to enable myself to be competent by the time I graduate.

That being said, once I get back into my routine as the new school year gets going, I should be able to maintain at least some level of weekly progress on these projects. I’ve also carved out some “protected writing time” for myself this coming weekend, and if it is a success, I will implement it every weekend.

If you’re wondering why I’m spending time writing this update rather than actually working on my projects, it’s because I am using the shame and embarrassment to motivate me to write. Sure, I wish my motivations were more pure and that this weren’t necessary, but here we are.
